What happens when life gets in the way?

Ok, so there’s nothing I like more than spending time in a gym, moving from weights to machines and then back again. Early mornings, when it’s fairly empty, is actually my favorite time of day. And yet, I have to admit that when deadlines are crushing and my workload is intense, both workouts and eating patterns tend to disappear. As much as I want to stick to my regular patterns, there simply seems to be little time to do so.

So, I’m curious – how do you guys do it? What happens when life gets in the way? Send your tips to me – I’d love to know how to maintain my resolve! Please comment below!

  1. For me with a full time job, two children and working a second job it is being organized, proactive and just as you set your alarm clock to a wake up call, you set your day clock according to your life and incorporate a time each day which is 'set aside' for training. If you have a doctor's appointment you set the date/time, the same holds true for training. It has to be a PRIORITY and something you COMMIT to NO MATTER WHAT! The same for meal planning. Plan your week of food 'ahead' of time pick either a time Saturday or Sunday to 'prepare' your meals for the week. You will LOVE being organized for the week and it saves time during the week to make sure you get the workouts in! Casseroles, crockpot dishes, or incorporating your family into your meal plan is also a time saving tip! Journal your goals, set realistic goals...take each one, one step at a time, one day at a time...motivational photos.....Believing is half the battle...what you can envision you can make your reality!.......

  2. Sadly, I get on the scale. That usually snaps me back into a schedule/ routine! And,I write everything in my calander so I know when hectic times are ahead; allowing me to plan gym time and proper meals around the craziness!

  3. Exercising in the morning is key for me. When life gets really crazy I know I must get up a bit earlier so I can at least get 40 minutes of cardio in. My workouts are soooo important to not only my physcal self but for my sanity!! I also make sure I write everything down in my orange planner...even my workouts so it reminds me daily how important they are!

  4. If I get off track I revert back to my daily journal, I also have preplanned snacks so when things start to fall behind I have back ups. The locked drawers at work are concealed with healthy snacks (Fibre bars, nuts without salt (boo urns), and so on. I find going through my journal and to see where I started at is motivation enough to keep focussed and remind me to stay on track no matter what... that and since I've lost 30 lbs I have people who I've motivated at work and have a watchful eye on me... don't want to let myself down but them included.

  5. I set a time for working out, and half-an-hour before I start cranking my workout music and getting dressed in gym gear. Actually setting a time after being home relaxing for a while relieves the feeling of being pigeonholed into working out and makes me feel more in control of my fitness, the music and dressing slowly puts me in gear! I find once I physically am standing in the gym knocking a workout off is no stress.

  6. Whenever I start to feel that there just is no time, motivation, energy I tell myself, "you can do this for 10 minutes." I usually find that I end up doing a full workout. Or if I feel pressed for time, I break it up doing 20 minutes of strength in the morning and a 30 minute cardio routine at my gym at lunchtime.

  7. I'm reading on here, because I am one of the ones who has let life get in the way of my health and fitness goals. I've been back working full-time now for 3 years, and over the 3 years I have re-gained the 40 pounds that I've worked so hard to lose. I need and want to get back to a healthy weight. My kids are older now and I thought that would make it easier, but it hasn't. The homework is harder and there is more running them around than before. I have great success with The FIRM and Weight Watchers; and I think that reading some of the past posts, that I need to reorganize and start back up with my journaling.

So thanks to all who posted here to remind me just how important it is to make time for me!
